advisory support

our advisory support work involves providing specific and relevant advice to entrepreneurs, collectives, governments, and non-governmental organizations through a decolonial, intersectional feminist approach.

at civitatem, advisory support is a highly collaborative process that centres the agency of the recipient while offering up perspectives from a different seat at the table, to shape their offerings in ways that support the intentional progress of the communities they serve.

our offering

our advisory support involves understanding the key problem, challenge, issue, or question that the actor requires perspective on, and providing comprehensive advice with relevant knowledge products and examples as appropriate.

through our advisory support, we aim to center a decolonial, feminist approach that also understands the role of power, privilege, and positionality, and pays attention to intended/unintended and desired/undesired consequences. it is ideal for any individual or group that wants to gain perspective on their offerings in ways that can help their visions support and serve communities.

our advisory support process is highly collaborative and involves room for dialogue, discussion, and debate.

what do we advice on?

  • we support organizations with advisory on building organizational processes and practices that are inclusive, equitable, and open to reflecting on power, privilege, and positionality.

  • we support organisations and collectives in embedding intersectional approaches into their sites of engagement.

  • we advise governments, regional blocks, international organizations, and collectives on the development and drafting of their foreign policies through a decolonial, intersectional feminist lens.

  • we offer advisory on ways to embed ethical practices into the development and deployment of technology, specifically in relation to AI and emerging technologies.

how does it work?

step 1: scoping

we will engage in 1:1 conversations and/or a general survey to understand what your group is hoping to achieve, where it seeks to move to through the process, and name what it finds challenging in or about the process.

step 2: development and delivery

following the scoping conversation, we develop and deliver an advisory report after engaging in conversations and relevant research in response to key questions presented, and surface unseen issues and risks as well.

step 3: report and impact assessment

we prepare a comprehensive report that names outcomes and offers tools and resources for the collective to rely on from time to time. we also do a debrief survey to explore and understand the impact of the process.
