our offering

mediation is a process where a neutral third party serves as an intermediary and supports the parties in the amicable resolution of the dispute.

the adversarial system of dispute resolution – where parties are pitted against each other, like in litigation – can be divisive and create more discord. mediation is a cheaper, quicker, and more efficient alternative to litigation. it creates pathways for coexistence through co-created solutions that centre equity and party agency, and preserve relationships.

mediation at civitatem involves providing constructive, co-creative, and community centric pathways for the sustainable resolution of all kinds of disputes.

what do we mediate?

  • in our mediations, at civitas, we hold space as non-judgmental, objective, and compassionate third-party to support parties in dispute with each other, to arrive at a lasting solution that centers the agency of both sides. we care deeply about sustaining relationships and building community, and approach mediation with a transformative mindset. we use joint and private sessions to steer the journey from conflict through healing and repair to transformation.

  • we provide a supportive environment for resolving conflicts concerning family dynamics. our practice emphasizes open communication, empathy, and mutual understanding to reach fair and sustainable agreements. with a focus on the well-being of all family members, we guide parties through a structured process aimed at reducing tension, fostering cooperation, and promoting positive outcomes for everyone involved

  • we facilitate constructive dialogue and conflict transformation among colleagues, teams, or management. we prioritize communication, empathy, and fairness to address misunderstandings, disputes, and interpersonal conflicts. by creating supportive spaces, we guide parties through a structured process to find mutually beneficial solutions, fostering a harmonious work environment to build meaningful work relationships.

  • we facilitate dialogues between conflicting parties in the international relations context to foster understanding and nonviolent resolution. we work with communities, organizations, or nations to promote reconciliation, social justice, and sustainable peace. by employing culturally sensitive approaches and innovative strategies, we create lasting solutions to promote harmony, cooperation, and mutual respect.

how does mediation work?

step 1: convening

we begin by bringing both parties to the mediation to understand the way the process will unfold, answer questions, and set expectations. this will help set the context for mediation, from which we will proceed.

step 2: mediation

through a mix of joint and individual meetings, we will meet over several sessions to talk through the key issues and concerns the parties would like to bring to the table. parties can bring in experts if they so wish, too.

step 3: settlement

bringing the mediation process to an end, the settlement will bring the terms of the parties’ agreement on paper. these terms hold as the parties are accountable to each other and the process of mediation.
